Ford Motor is recalling about 85,000 Explorer SUVs equipped with the Police Interceptor Utility package over concerns of an engine fire, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Friday.
In the event of a motor failure, oil and fuel may be released into the engine compartment and accumulate near ignition sources, possibly resulting in a fire, the regulator said.
The recall affects SUVs from model years 2020-2022 equipped with 3.3L hybrid and gas engines.
Looks like the Ford Exploder moniker is making a comeback.
My brother and I never stopped calling it that. And he owns one himself. Luckily not one that needs a recall.

Good ol’ Exploders living up to their name.
It’s the gift that keeps giving. I remember hearing that nickname twenty years ago.
I love the smell of leaking fuel lines in the morning (drove a first gen before)
Setup to a joke about roasting pigs I’m not finding the words for.
How about “This cooks the pigs too fast, you need to slow roast them to achieve maximum tenderness.” Or “If the doors stick closed this turns the whole thing into a massive offset pig smoker.”
Ford really hitting these back to back this year
What’s old is new again, what other 2003 greatest hits you guys think are due for a comeback?
Firestone really was a rough choice of name
