The Canadian government says it decided to pull its diplomats’ children and their guardians out of Israel, amid fears over an expanded Mideast war.

Global Affairs Canada says it has approved the temporary relocation of the children and their guardians to a safe third country.

Embassy staff are expected to remain in Israel.

Diplomats stationed in nearby Ramallah in the West Bank and in Beirut, Lebanon, do not have dependents living with them.

An Iran/Isreal war seems extremely unlikely, but Isreal absolutely is a hot mess right now. If there are credible threats it might make more sense to just withdraw the entire ambassadorial staff.

      Reduced staff? Sure. Entire? No.

We have ambassadorial staff in Ukraine, and it’s a very hot mess. Work doesn’t stop just because a war is on.

We used to put the reduced staff in a nearby nation. Not sure if that’s still necessary with improved telecoms, we can probably pull them all the way home.
