…This is not a publishing deal for Palworld the video game, or an acquisition by Sony, rather an attempt to make the most of the game’s huge popularity with non-video game products, such as merchandise and music…

Looks like we’re safe from any forced PSN account requirements. For now…

Players (suspicious): “So what is it you’re doing here, Sony?”

    Sony: “Merchandizing.”

    Players: “Merchandizing? What’s that?”

Sony: “Merchandizing! Come, I’ll show you. Open up this door.”

Sony: “Come, take a look! We’ve got the game’s logo on everything. Merchandizing, merchandizing… Where the real money from the game is made.”

Sony: “Palworld the t-shirt! Palworld the cell phone case! Palworld the laptop stickers! *Palworld, the flamethrower!”

    Fwooosh!

    Sony: “The kids love it.”

      Sony: “And lastly…”
Gestures to a life-size Lovander doll
Sony: “Palworld the mega-doll! Pose it however you want! Stand it dramatically in a window! Lay it in bed and use it as a pillow!”

Sony (smugly): “But we know what you’re really going to use it for. You naughty little hand-holder, you.

I thought this meant they were getting bought out but it seems like a deal for selling merch and other products.

    We should be fine.

How many Pokemon rip-offs are there out there? Nintendo doesn’t own the idea of enslaving cutesy critters to fight for your entertainment.

The fact that they haven’t issued lawsuits already makes it more difficult to start them now.

They go after small youtubers to get a few pennies, whale eating tiny krill. They are very likely salivating about a cut of the meat from Palworld, they would have sued in a heartbeat if they could.

I didn’t, but I knew it was so far just a merch deal from the comments. I just don’t think that’s where this ends, and Sony does not have a reputation for being subtle in getting what it wants.

Because they have been stopped there. It’s up to those folks behind Palworld to not sign contracts or accept certain promises.

Not gonna lie, I missed the pokemon craze as a kid. Like yeah it was there but I never really got into it.

That said, I’d be down to get some kind of Palworld merch like a plush or something.
