Picture shows a pride parade. A group of people are carrying a banner that says “LOCKHEED MARTIN” over a rainbow graphic.

Bold of you to assume that there’s no cause-effect relation between what Lockheed-Martin execs deem profitable, and whatever policy the US takes. Lobbying is a thing, and the same investors that put money in military conglomerates, put money into lobbying and into media. If you can’t see how the existence of powerful capitalist companies that make weapons is detrimental to a democracy, I don’t know what to tell you.

What’s this bullshit? Now we can’t criticise the military conglomerates because “they’re just companies doing company things”? Nah fuck that and fuck Lockheed Martin, selling weapons to an imperialist government makes you as bad as the imperialist government.

You can and should criticize the Military Industrial Complex. But people screaming “WAR CRIMINAL” anytime they see anything to do with the military accomplishes nothing. Worse than nothing if people associate rational criticism with the screaming lunatic fringe.

Maybe if the US army (as well as any western country’s army) had done anything but war crimes for the past 80 years, people wouldn’t react so badly to it.

But tell me, where’s the “lunatic fringe screaming” in my concerns of how lobbying from the military industrial complex can hurt democracy in my previous comment?

I was referring to the fact in a thread which is accusing Lockheed Martin is doing war crimes. War crimes is a serious accusation, and in a debate you’d be asked which specific warcrime are you referring to? And then if you go on like the crazy Charlie Always Sunny meme, you lose the debate.

Maybe if the US army (as well as any western country’s army) had done anything but war crimes for the past 80 years, people wouldn’t react so badly to it.

And this is the kind of shit I’m talking about. It’s obviously wrong, but you think by using massive hyperbole you get an edge in a debate? Nope. You just lose the debate. Because you said everything western countries have done in the last 80 years is a war crime, I only need to provide one example of something any western country has done in the last 80 years to prove you wrong. Like western countries send portions of their military to be Peacekeepers to help maintain peace agreements, and you consider that a war crime? Now you have to prove peacekeeping is a war crime to win the debate.

Then once you’re trying to prove Peacekeeping is a war crime you’re not making headway on convincing anyone about the problems of the military industrial complex. See how lunatic fringe screaming just derails serious discussion and accomplishes nothing?
