don’t. don’t become numb. don’t refuse to be surprised. that’s what he wants. the strategy he’s found that works is to ddos emotions until they are so much you are forced to ignore it. that’s what happened in 2015. it’s what’s happening now.
take personal space where you need. take a breath as an individual. but don’t push for understanding or acceptance universally, as though this is “just how he is.”
a society that isn’t surprised by fascism is not electrified to prevent it, and is essentially prepared to stoke it.

With a first past the post electoral system, two parties are a mathematical inevitability. With more representative voting systems, people would be able to vote for someone who they feel is best, safe in the knowledge that their vote would still be counted against those they dint want in office.
We can change how we vote one state at a time. Even yours!
I never understand why this is not more of an issue in US political discourse. I mean, on the one hand, the answer is obvious: most media are controlled by entities that want to maintain the status quo. But even on the left, there doesn’t seem to be much momentum to campaign for change.
Part of it is that it’s easier to complain than offer solutions 🤷♂️
The other part is getting the ball rolling. Like, where do you even start? I see a lot of states getting positive changes enacted through ballot initiatives, but unfortunately, my state doesn’t have any kind of provision for that. So, we’re at the mercy of whoever the low-information voters elect.
Also see the spate of “red states” that have already submitted legislation to specifically outlaw any other form of voting i.e. ranked-choice.
AFAIK, that’s not been on the table here…yet. Give them time, though.
There were 4 pretty terrible legislature-initiated ballot initiatives in 2022 that all failed to pass by a decent margin. That’s at least giving me some hope. Though I don’t know if outlawing ranked-choice would be something that’d have to go through ballot initiative or if the legislature could just pass it on their own.

It would require nothing short of a revolution. Bernie Sanders couldn’t even get a nomination and he just wanted healthcare.
Honestly I just think it’s hilarious that even left wing americans still get portrayed with the sunglasses in polandball.
One of the most heart warming uses of the shades I think was Kraut in his US Mexico series, he capped it off with a talk about how both sides of the border debate in the US don’t truly cut to the core issue of why Mexico, and really Latin America writ large, has such a steady flow towards the border. To illustrate how America could be doing better to support her neighbors, he shows Mexico and America ball in a boat fishing, and America actually lifts the shades to happily ask Mexico, “wanna try friend?”
