I’m starting to realize that the possibility of needing yearly covid shots like with the flu is becoming more and more real. Goddamnit.
It is 100% endemic at this point.
From what I’ve read, at this time there has never been a vaccine created for any coronavirus that has provided sterilizing immunity. Coronaviruses tend to mutate, which makes them somewhat of a moving target. That being said, this study shows an Intranasal COVID vaccine has provided sterelizing immunity in mice, but we need human studies.
The best we can hope for, outside of boosters and continuing to mask and social distance when cases are high, is that future mutations are selected that have fewer nasty side effects and are far less deadly.
