The news organizations just want the crazy ratings it would generate.

If I were Biden, I wouldn’t bother. Biden would be just be screwed over by the useless moderator. Trump would hog the whole debate

Trump is a clown and the media wants to run the circus. The only reason they want Biden there is to play the straight man and add an air of legitimacy to the show.

Biden has previously mopped the floor with Trump in 2 debates and already made Trump look like a coward for skipping a third scheduled debate.

Imagine Trump in a parliamentary system where he would need to spend time in the chamber and actually answer questions.

That’s a losing move for Biden and he knows it. It’s like going to a zoo and a monkey just throwing shit at you for 90 minutes. Trump will just word vomit about nothing and declare himself the winner. Sometime the only winning move in a game is not playing at all. Kind of like nuclear war

But the Right has fixated so much about Biden’s mental acuity that’s simply showing up and making clear points will be a win for him. Meanwhile, I am betting that Trump will descend into the same word salad that he always does (amplified with early dementia), and will look good to nobody except his most ardent Truth Social investors.

So yes, we shouldn’t learn anything new vs 4 years ago, but even that situation favors Biden, since he already beat Trump once.

The lines are already drawn and we know what we’re voting for with each side, this is just about generating ratings and revenue.

Give the moderator a mute button and I would watch it. It would be neat if they live captioned the bs trump was yelling about while muted.

I’m old enough to remember when debates were run by the League of Women Voters and had actual moderation and discussion of the issues

It’ll happen. Biden wants to prove really badly that he’s fit. Trump wants a national audience really badly so he can gaslight and play wounded lamb the entire time. Each side will point to various gaffs the other makes and claim victory.

I think if it doesn’t happen, it’ll be the first time in my life and I’m getting longer in the tooth.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

“If there is one thing Americans can agree on during this polarized time, it is that the stakes of this election are exceptionally high,” the organizations said in the joint statement.

“Amidst that backdrop, there is simply no substitute for the candidates debating with each other, and before the American people, their visions for the future of our nation.”

But in a December interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump suggested he’d be up for 10 debates with Mr. Biden.

He spoke to the crowd from one podium and left the other empty except for a placard reading, "Anytime.

President Biden, when asked on March 8 if he would commit to a debate with Trump, said that “it depends on his behavior.”

The president previously addressed a potential debate in early February while visiting Las Vegas.
