That’s not the same at all. PLA-printed 3D prints don’t take 1000s of years to break down, but they’re very clearly not something you add to the composter.
And even if it did take thousands of years at least it wouldn’t be breaking down into microplastics. Having something in a landfill for a thousand years is less of a problem than microplastics everywhere. We’d actually be a lot better off is plastics never broke down. Sure mountains of plastic waste would be bad, but less bad that drinking it.

I think they meant the stuff applied to animal skins to make it leather. Can be done cheap and extremely dirty…
