Wait a minute. I live in the USA and I thought the reason we couldn’t federaly fund renewables was because “it doesn’t matter if we switch to renewables because China will still destroy the world with fossil fuels anyway.” Are you telling me that someone in our government lied to us? -s

The US doesn’t want to switch to renewables for national security reasons. Funnily enough, national security is also a big reason why China DOES want to switch to renewables.

If you’re going to make a claim, support it.

Edit: this might have been a little hostile, and for that I apologize. However, substantiating claims with evidence is also common courtesy.

Not OP: likely referring to the fact their empire is built on the petrodollar. OCC has a great video on fossil fascism that goes into more detail.

China has remarkably low oil reserves for a country of it’s size. One of the biggest consumers of oil are automobiles… Which is why China is simultaneously developing EVs at a breakneck pace and developing the necessary power generation tech to support a massive increase in electricity demand.

Could you elaborate on why the same renewables strategy works for China’s energy security but would not work to provide energy security for the USA?

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Renewable energy grew faster in 2023 than at any time in the last three decades, according to the International Energy Agency.

Solar power in China accounted for much of the growth.
