Last year, as an occasional contributor to the Rust project, I did not think much about the organisational structure of the team behind the project. I saw a hierarchy of teams and groups, team leaders, etc. Just like any other organisation. This year, after getting more involved, becoming a library team member and eventually team lead, I spent some more time thinking about why we have this structure, what these teams are for.

    It’s my impression, though, that the larger a company becomes, the more bottom-up it has to become, too.

    At some point, it just becomes absolutely impossible for any single person to know about or make decisions for all the different concerns in a corporation.
    And it is ultimately the individual workers that have the best insight into their current work, what problems they are faced with etc…

      I whole heartedly agree with you but that doesn’t happen in corporations, at least in my experience. My sample size is small.
