I pay for YouTube premium and have for years. I got rid of Netflix and all other subscriptions. I am a real person. I expect to be downvoted by the hive mind, that’s ok. I happily watch YouTube ad free and am OK paying a monthly fee for the service serving about 50% of my family’s video entertainment purposes.

I pay less money today for internet +YouTube than I did for a tv+cable package a decade ago, and my experience is far better because I was still watching ads on my paid cable subscription.

I also pay for premium. Got it as part of the pixel pass which they discontinued a few months after I started it but I get to run out the clock for now. Not sure if I’ll keep it, there’s a price I’m willing to pay to not see ads, but the price unbundled from the pixel pass might be too much. I’d rather pay than see ads, and I’d rather pay someone else than Google, but for now other options aren’t better.

With some technical know-how from another life, I’ve tried FOSS alternatives for some Google services. I decided that the tech support necessary to easily use and maintain the service was just enough outsidey wheelhouse at this time in my life to be worth it, and I’ll give Google a small amount of $ for the services I’ve integrated into my life.

That being said, I’ll gladly and instantly switch services if offered the same quality and ease of service for a similar price and the company actually demonstrates that I’m the customer and own my data instead of being a source of their dataset to sell off as they please.
