The kbin logo not linking directly to home was probably one of my top UI gripes. I’m glad to see it get changed. Still hoping there will be an easier way to bring up the list of subscribed magazines.

I had to re-install my PWA, but it now adheres to the rotation setting on my phone. I’m using a Samsung Android phone so it may depend on the OS.

Back before the Internet was really a thing I would sometimes reread some of the few favorite books that I owned. Like a lot of other posters, LotR was a staple though I did find myself skipping through the parts where things got slow. Jurassic Park and the Lost World were another set that I enjoyed every time through.

When I was much younger, I read all of the star wars books that I could get my hands on. A few years after I had stopped reading them, I randomly got bored and decided to check what new stuff had come out. I picked one out and got about 3/4 through before realizing that it was not a new book and that I had read it before. So much for retention!

Maybe reddit does that thing that Apple does where they have multiple siloed teams work on the same or similar things and just use the one that comes up with the best solution. So they have 80 independent devs each working on their own app and the current app is the least shitty out of all of them. Either that or they have like 50 shitty apps, 20 decent apps, 9 brilliant apps, and the one that they went with which was done by spez’s nephew who took a coding bootcamp one summer and is really good at mobile dev.

Think of it as kindling for a fire. It’s not going to fuel the platform long term but it’s probably appealing to a lot of folks right now. Hopefully it will spur engagement which will then spread to other more interesting and sustainable topics.

I was really hoping they would take Jaime Jacquez Jr. I think he’s an instant contributor and would have fit Leborn’s timeline. Plus he would have been an instant crowd favorite. I guess the Heat thought so too and picked him up 1 spot later.

The first live tennis match I ever saw was Nishikori at the 2019 US Open. He’s a player that lived in the shadow of the big 3 his entire career. It’d be great if he could sustain his health for long enough to really measure himself against this current generation.

Large Adversary.

Tiafoe has always been a high ceiling player who could challenge the best on his good days. It looks like he’s made some strides in his mental game and his consisteny has improved. It’s great to see the hard work paying off with his second title of the year.

I think it’s a healthy part of the growth of the Fediverse. Maybe it ends up being a good idea, maybe not. Hopefully everyone can keep an open mind and learn some lessons along the way both with successes and failures. Let’s be real, if this is what kills the Fediverse then the Fediverse was doomed from the start.

This is all early days and I’m just enjoying the ride. It’s really just refreshing that it’s not some VC backed mega corp making these decision.

Running the hypervisors built in to unraid or truenas are certainly options but proxmox/VMware are just easier. If you’re learning about virtualization, you’re going to find a lot more resources for proxmox/VMware. Conversely the storage capabilities of proxmox/VMware are either severely limited in the case of VMware or just not particularly user friendly for proxmox. By virtualizing your storage OS you can get the best of both worlds for some situations. Sure, there are situations where it’s a bad idea but if you’ve only got one machine and it has plenty of resources it can be very effective.

Heck even if the main function for the NAS is just windows shares, that full blown storage OS is going to give you redundancy, snapshots, and replication. I’d say those are pretty important even for Windows shares.

Another vote for virtualized router! I keep set a core VMs on that host where uptime is the highest priority. I’ve upgraded RAM, downgraded CPU, and eventually switched to an entirely new host with 0 downtime over the past few months. I’d rather not have to wait until everyone else on the network is sleeping before doing any tinkering on the hardware. It’s pretty neat to be streaming some video and then live migrate the router to another physical host with 0 interruption.

The first suspension was 8 games so the repeat offense being 3x the penalty seems reasonable. Another poster mentioned that it also makes him ineligible for a lot of end of year awards. I Silver mentioning that they found additional information had everyone thinking the new stuff was worse and worth a bigger suspension.

I remember getting my first 2 computers connected over 10base2 LAN with T connectors and terminators and all that stuff just so me and my brother could play duke nukem 3d. It was awesome. I also remember one of the computers could barely run it and then only if shrinking the screen down. If more than 3 laser trip bombs went off at once… instant slideshow.

Another vote for TMM. Pi type devices will use less power at idle but probably by only around 5w. I have a Pi 4 that idles at 4-5w and HP Elitedesk g5 with i5 8500t that sits at around 9w. The performance difference between the two is night and day. Used Intel 8th gen really is getting to be the sweet spot with regard to price, performance, and efficiency.
