They think they’re going to build a god to save us all. In the form of a perfectly rational machine (in their view), the perfect authoritarian. A mysterious algorithm noone can understand that must be correct because it’s made of mathematics. I’m a little freaked out.

In Australia you have to have a fence around any backyard pool, including shallow little blow up pools, because children will get into your yard and drown. So I guess it’s expected. Also, going into someone’s yard to get a lost ball was pretty normal when I was a kid and would not have resulted in losing custody.

I use a firefox extension called uBlacklist. It blocks any site you hate from appearing in google search results. No more facebook, instagram, youtube, tiktok etc.

There is a consensus that emotions are bad and should be ignored but if you ask people what they want out of life it’s all emotions: love, happiness, excitement, fullfillment. We denigrate feelings all the time but we didn’t go to the moon for science, it was curiosity and wonder and joy.

Your comment just reminded me that I’m very tired of emotions being dismissed as useless or harmful.

The thing about Australia is that all the things that kill you on land are small and sneaky and will run away from you. There are no large predators. Crocodiles are all up north and easy to avoid. Shark attacks are rare and there are nets for the jellyfish, also up north. Meanwhile the US has bears that can open doors, come into your house and eat you alive. I think this is why they have guns and we don’t, although I have no doubt that someone has taken a shotgun to a huntsman at some point and I don’t blame them.

Why the need to stop seeing them as men? Why the need to redefine men behaving badly as boys? It seems like you can’t accept that some men behave this way so you want to pretend they’re not really men.
