Ah I see, you’re just commenting on an Ontario, Canada based post on a Canadian Lemmy instance is why I was curious :P
assistant-upper-middle-deputy-manager
With the amount of admin bloat in most government and education sectors I honestly wouldn’t even be surprised at this point if that was someones legit title.
It sounded like they also had content on platforms like TikTok that they had problems with. Like being dressed as a “schoolgirl” in tiktok videos.
She essentially was fetishizing her job online for money. I can definitely see that getting into some areas that would result in violating some sort of employment policy they agreed to.
To be fair that quote doesn’t really hold true when someone is posting what they do in the bedroom online :P. Though this isn’t a criminal thing anyway.
Any reason you’re comparing to the UK and not the closer America? Always funny seeing how casually people can go into something like a convenience store and pickup some booze. Makes us seem so weirdly restrictive.
I’m almost convinced Trudeau did the weed in the beginning for similar reasons. Though I support what Doug is doing here, and what Trudeau did regarding weed, I do like to entertain the conspiracy theory thinking too. The less sober society is the easier it is to make bad policy decisions without as much pushback :D
Unfortunately that is probably true.
That looks like one you have to plug in, but they seem to be talking about battery powered mowers.
Personally I like that metric. It would almost be nice to have both an “active users” as well as a view/visit count. It’s nice knowing how much actual activity a community is getting. It’s something that sometimes feels missing from reddit.
Yeah, if fines work like a “cost of doing business” that they just account for on their budget sheets then it’s really just pointless. It’s also hilarious when I see a government fine a company for doing something wrong, but the customers that got screwed over get none of the money AND the fine amount is not as much as the profit they gained off doing the action. It’s like a double “fuck you” to the customer who got screwed over.
Yeah, cutting corners to make himself more money, and then we the taxpayers have to foot the bill for it. It’s the reason we have things like “sin taxes”. We allow people to make risky decisions because it ends up costing us more in things like medical expenses to treat their self imposed aliaments. In cases of gross negligence like this you should be on the hook for the costs to the emergency services.
I am pleasantly surprised to also see the Hacksmith Industries being apart of this event! I like seeing how involved they are in the community, really makes me happy to be a long-time subscriber to their YouTube channel.
Yeah it’s hard to take anything a politician says at face value anymore. Always gotta wait and see what their actions actually show later.
Interested in who these other ones would be? From my understanding Meta for example is trying to integrate in someway into the Fediverse style community so I can’t imagine they would, but maybe they could have some incentive to make other instances look toxic. Maybe Twitter, but you’d think they would have started their attacks earlier back when Mastodon started to become a thing. The timing of all the bots coming just seems inline with when it would impact reddits bottom line the most.
Especially when it comes to IPOs we have seen other companies do toxic behaviour or hire 3rd party companies to do it in order to try and make themselves look better prior to an IPO. With their aggressive takeovers of subreddits I wouldn’t put it past them. I’ve been on reddit now over 15 years and reddit has completely shredded the respect I had for them in such a short period of time.
Yeah I am more just saying it seems odd how quickly tons of bots decided to start coming for the site. Normally that is a slower ramp up that you start to notice build over time. Kinda like when reddit first started there wasn’t much of a spam issue. It just seems almost like a targeted attack in a way. But you could also be totally right. I just like my anti-reddit conspiracy theory ;)
It seems weird that spammers/bots would want to target lemmy so quickly considering it’s relatively small size. It makes you wonder if it’s really Reddit or a 3rd party they hired trying to make Lemmy seem like a less appealing alternative with these kinds of attacks.
Yeah I’ve got a person I know that runs a small iptv service. Mainly used for live things like sports. I more got it setup for my parents place because it’s just easier for them to use that then to try to use things like reddit to find streams of each sporting game they want to watch.
It can also be good for when you just want to put something random on in the background. I personally barely use it as I don’t really watch sports and I hate watching ads. So for my content it mostly comes from sonarr/radarr.
Not sure specifically what unit your talking about, but the ductless units are typically fixed outside of the house, not usually on the window itself. And then a hole is drilled through the house to provide the cooling/heating to the headless unit inside the room. This also eliminates the need to insulate like crazy around a window unit like you’re talking about.
