I think the one mod that I relied on added more signals on the bridge length, so multiple trains could go on the bridge at the same time.

Can’t remember the others, but I remember thinking some functions should be part of the base game.

The “core game” is, oddly enough, obsolete. The main “mod” you’ll want is a Patch Pack, specifically JGR’s Patch Pack: https://github.com/JGRennison/OpenTTD-patches/releases

Don’t worry too much about “OpenTTD-patches”, this isn’t just one patch like the ones where you’d have to compile patches into a nightly version yourself and all that crap. JGRPP is pre-compiled and is basically THE new standard version for anyone who knows it exists, as it’s regularly being updated with new features and not just bug fixes yet you can turn off nearly any feature that gets added.

JGR’s a pretty cool guy as long as your reasonable with him, unlike certain other members of the community-

-as I was saying, other than that you’ll want to look for a list of currently-maintained AI scripts (“NoAI”, which just means that the original TTD AI was gutted and replaced by interchangable AIs), as well as maybe pick a game script (GS), and make sure to pick up the following as “modded content” (NewGRFs, or GRFs for short)…

    • At least one road infrastructure set which makes use of NRT (NotRoadTypes, so named because every time someone tried to implement roadtypes before then, it was quickly abandoned, almost as if the concept was cursed) for both roadtypes AND tramtypes. Despite a disagreement with Ufiby, I recommend his U&RaTT Mini, which is available from the in-game content store and is very well-made, along with Quast65’s Metro Trams and Quast65’s Roads, which are also awesome. Keep in mind that you only have 62 roadtypes and that includes both roads and trams with trolleybus roads and unelectrified light rail being separate from regular roads and electrified light rail. If you combine GRFs you can very quickly run out of roadtype slots.
    • At least one railtype set, that is, rail graphics that make use of the railtypes feature. This is more complicated, but only because there’s a lot of choices and you can combine sets in larger numbers but they’ll often override each other. I recommend Ufiby’s U&ReRMM.
    • You can use it in conjunction with MTS (Maglev Track Set, also on the in-game content downloader) + MMS (Modern Maglev Set) and FRIMS (Future Reality-Inspired Maglev Set
    • As well as the Early Rail Set + the Recycled Tracktype Set (available on the in-game content downloader).
    • Not to mention the VacTrain Fork and the VacTrain Set (these ones are on the in-game content downloader, too).
