Residents cited parking, safety issues — but also property values and children running into bears

Imagine 65 parents dropping off and picking up their kids with their cars throughout the day. It’s just going to be complete chaos

I’ve NEVER seen this be an issue with any of the childcare places in town. Nor have I seen any issues with bears, even in bear-prone areas. It’s not that there aren’t bears, it’s just that if a bear happens to be around, they keep the kids in during that period. The playground requires crossing a road… big deal, that’s what crosswalks are for and PLENTY of daycares walk kids to those.

This is 100% NIMBY bullshit, likely from people who don’t even have children.

Or people who have older children, most likely.

But four of the nine people who spoke against the project explicitly brought up the potential of decreased property values as a reason for their opposition.

I’ve never been less proud to be from BC.

We definitely don’t live near the same daycares. I’ve seen this with EVERY daycare I’ve ever lived near. I don’t know what causes people to lose their freaking MIND when they’re picking up their kid but I’ve seen parents kicking cars of other parents because one or both of them can’t park or pull out, or one is double-parked, or both; and, in every case, it’s not a parking lot but an active side road.

No one cares about the kids. It’s only the parents.
