Personally I think the amount of gambling related advertising we’re all subjected to is already a disaster and flirting with much greater disaster than one limited just to the world of sport.

If we’ve banned advertising for drugs and alcohol I don’t see why we won’t ban gambling ads. Most I’ve seen use a “First time is free” marketing strategy. They must have stolen that from drug pushers.

You should see what YouTube is like without an ad-blocker. I swear to god, it’s either an alcohol ad or a gambling ad. Nothing else.

I can’t possibly imagine someone with a substance abuse history being able to survive the onslaught of constant marketing to drink, and maybe even pick up a gambling addiction while they are at it. It’s truly shameful and disgusting.

Fully agreed that the sports betting ads are out of control and need to be toned down / regulated.

But the REAL problem I have is with how - in just one year or so - gambling has invaded all sports broadcast. The intermission panels are talking about odds, live odds appear during the game, talking heads mentioning how much X dollars could would make if placed on team Y to win right now etc etc.

Even if you try to avoid the commercials, that content gets to you. And if you have a gambling problem, do you just accept that you can’t watch sports at all without risk of being exposed to that?

We treat all other addictive properties with heavy regulation about exposure to the general public. Gambling should be no exception.

I don’t have a gambling problem and I’ve stopped watching hockey because of the constant gambling ads. It’s completely unwatchable for me now.

There should be more info on how all gambling is basically just a scam. What’s worse is gambling in sports video games.

How about setting up kids with gambling mechanics combined with an abusive market that uses proprietary development tools so that the developed skillsets by their child labour force are not usable in different environments?

Can anyone name the multi billion dollar child focused corporation that I’m referencing?

    Spoilers, it’s Roblox.

Although the entire mobile market makes me believe we are doomed and the government will do absolutely nothing to control heavy investment in and use of manipulative practices. General citizens have no chance when their casual life moments are invisibly combative with multi billion dollar groups that do everything they can to get an advantage over peoples basic subconscious habits and lifestyles.

I see more people defending these practices than protesting them. All the while people are freaking out about the “evil” of AI art tools.

Gambling is just manipulation at this point. generally manipulating and taking advantage of people now is just “good business.”

Maybe due to the fact that it seems like 80% of all ads around sports are now for betting? Seriously, I expect the Skydome to be renamed the Draftkings Dome or something.
