Would it be a good strategy as some irredentist, tyrannical conqueror, to send a few fifth columnists to pose with a swastika flag?
I mean, if one did do something like that, then the world would know that opposing them is the same as helping neonazis.
I guess the good thing about this is that my question is completely hypothetical, because tyrannical conquerors never do anything like that.

Real Nazis are either dead or 95+ years old. Not all of them died in WWII, more than a few snuck away or were eventually pardoned. But they’re all old, dying, and dead.
I will gladly admit they have some younger admirers. They might even LARP as if they were Nazis themselves. But they’re not, they’re just pretending. Which is convenient for people who want to claim they’re fighting Nazis when their own grandfathers weren’t born before the end of WWII.

Nazism is an ideology that’s alive and well and US has proactively nurtured fascism in Europe.
The reason Putin cares is because NATO is threatening national security of Russia. If Ukraine joined NATO, then nukes could be put there that would reach Moscow in five minutes. This is a red line, just like USSR putting nukes in Cuba was a red line for US. What’s happening in Ukraine would be equivalent to Russia overthrowing the government in Mexico, then installing a puppet government that would ask to join CSTO so that Russia could put nukes in US border. Try and use that tiny brain of yours to imagine how US would react to that.
