Is it my turn to do the joke? Yeah? Okay, here goes:
Op, why are you putting this absolutely fascinating post in mildly interesting? This is way too interesting.
Edit: the colors are produced by phosphors that are painted on the filament: https://www.thisiscolossal.com/2016/12/aerolux-flower-bulbs/
2nd edit: I’ve been fully nerd-sniped:
The red bulbs are filled with neon gas, the pink bulbs with a neon-argon mix, and the purple/violet bulbs with argon gas. The green color (as was used for grass, accents in advertising bulbs or leaves in the flower and bouquet bulbs) was produced by coating the metal with barium, which responded to the wavelength of light given off by the ionized gas.

🙇♀️ was looking for exactly this.
New diy project😁
Thank you! I was wondering what shenanigans they were possibly using to make filament glow in different colors, even in the same bulb. That also explains the need for such large enclosures. Neat!
These go for $800+ each btw. I have a broken one of these and it’s still worth a couple hundred lol.
Edit: Specifically the Aerolux 1960s orange bulbs are $800+. They’re collectors items.
Why aren’t they produced anymore? I imagine it would be possible to have something similar manufactured for way less.
Or is it something about poisonous substances inside or something?
The make led ones now that are around 10 USD. They don’t nearly as cool when off. This thread has sent me down a weird lightbulb rabbit hole
Seriously? I literally have a light bar of 8 of these sitting on a shelf behind me right now!
I mean they are cool and stuff, but I guess I would sell them
no way. we had a house that had a field of electric flowers in my hometown. they stopped doing 'em a decade ago. got to see 'em their last year when we were visiting. they are so cool. it’ll take some time but i can’t remember right now where those photos are backed up. might already be on another hard drive.
edit: i think my wife has more photos on her phone

The curse from the Beauty and the Beast is real.
This looks like some junk my grandma would’ve had sitting around.
Ewww wash your hands dude
Edit: why is this getting downvoted? People like seeing shit-encrusted fingernails on video?
