That’s a weird element for the headline to focus on. From the article:

The NCCM says the woman, who is a local Pizza Pizza owner, saw a group of people, including teenagers, attempt to commit theft in the restaurant, and once she went to confront the group, the situation quickly turned violent.

The violence is shocking and unacceptable. It’s totally possible islamophobia caused the situation to escalate to violence so dramatically. I hope it gets considered at trial.

How? This is an awful thing that happened. Maybe the initial reason wasn’t racially charged but there’s no reason to think this is rage bait

The headline doesn’t even mention this was a robbery. Don’t you think that’s more important than an article of clothing?

Use of force makes this robbery by definition. Theft is done without coercion, usually without the victim’s knowledge (pickpocketing for example).

You are indeed correct, but the votes for some reason go against you.

This title and article is meant to seem like a targeted racist attack, when it was factually teenagers being shitty teenagers and would have ripped whatever she had on her head off while they were assaulting and robbing her for trying to stand up for her business.

Well, I wouldn’t say that with any certainty - there’s certainly a chance the pulling off of the hijab was motivated by xenophobia, but even if it was, that only puts it a distant third behind the violent assault and the robbery. It shouldn’t be the first thing mentioned in the headline because it implies having her hijab removed is worse than getting her store robbed and her head kicked in.

Deliberately write a non-racially charged attack into one to get more click is rage bait. If it’s an awful thing happened, then why shift the thing into racially charged one to cause unrest?
