I have a very vivid memory of walking into a gas station at 2am with friends, high on mushrooms. We all went our separate ways to grab drinks and snacks, and then stood in a surprisingly long line with a few strangers to purchase them. I was in another dimension. All of us were. None of us were communicating with each other whatsoever. Just standing there in line with huge pupils and snacks in our arms. Then someone started snickering quietly. Then another. Then another. Soon it was psychedelic fucking pandemonium beneath those florescent gas station lights. I think even the strangers may have been having a good time. I’m not even sure how we managed to pay. Great memory, though.

I was riding a bus once, which was rare at the time as I usually took the street car, and i had taken some acid earlier and was coming back from a 4ish mile walk from the river to a flag store and at the bus stop this guy starts talking and showing me the slingshot he has. He’s telling me all about the different kinds of slingshot and some weird stuff too but the whole time be is shooting dried beans across the street. He’s like a sniper. He’s calling out letters on signs across the street and just nailing them without breaking conversational stride. The bus came and I got on and he didn’t. He wasn’t even waiting for a bus, he was just excited about the slingshot I guess.

After I got on the bus I sat in a double seat by myself and my friends took similar positions. A lady got on at the next stop and sat next to me. She was a French expat who, at the advice of her psychiatrist, was riding the bus and practicing having conversations with people. She told me all that immediately upon sitting down. Then we had a pretty normal conversation for what felt like forever but could only have been 15 minutes.

When I was younger I forgot I needed to go to the bank and get a rent check until I started coming up off a tab. I ended up writing down a script of what I needed to say outside the bank and focusing at the note on my phone while speaking to the very sober teller. Check ended up clearing which was a relief
