tbf, the political compass test is ancient and was never great to begin with. You have to almost try to get a certain result.

That particular compass (and unfortunately the only one ever used on the internet) was designed by right wing libertarians to reflect their ideas in a postive light and all others in a negative light. The terms chosen for the axes are vague and ambigous, and the combination of precisely those terms in that manner very unorthodox.

It is completely useless for any actual identification of political beliefs, and is not used by any political scientists. It is unsurprising that tankies test the way they do, because it was precisely designed to lure people who are largely ignorant of political science into libertarianism.

I wish making an axis-oriented test like that was easier, I’d make such a great political horoscope

I think they had a valid question. Do you think a one-dimensional left/right scale is better than the 2 dimensional political compass? Is there a better method of classifying political beliefs for those of us who don’t have degrees in political science?

Personally, more axes the better, but that calls into question, are we playing teams, or are we trying to do actual science?

Maybe there shouldn’t be a scheme simplifying a complex matter to two axes, coupled with these short questionnaires? Or it shouldn’t be taken seriously at all? PCM is a Harry Potter houses test for political fandoms on the internet, it has it’s niche, but neither it, nor other models bring something meaningful to the table for it is by design a gross oversimplification.

I think a lot of the ideals they want are good and something I agree on. However their worldview is so narrow that they see everything that is seen as opposite to capitalism as good. Even countries that commit crimes even worse than some of the most capitalist countries. Then there are also a bunch of trolls and assholes there who are incapable to discuss why they like or dont like something

That’s because they’ve all got the emotional maturity of an obnoxious 12-year-old. They haven’t got a clue what they’re talking about and are incapable of nuance.

They’d be alright if they actually followed the rules of social discourse rather than acting the way they do and posting their shit pictures.

…Lib left? Really? The Chapo Trash House comm on the tankie meme-trash instance is full of some kinda mindless ‘communism’-worshipping anarchists who love to brigade everything with tankie horsecrap?

Ugh. Guess I’ll go join the ‘post-left’ Raddle cult and kill myself for having ever eaten meat. Beats having to circlejerk to Vlad/Xi slashfic and yell at people for thinking there’s anything bad outside of NATO all day

The OG test is notorious for having a strong LibLeft bias so it’s not really surprising that they got those results. A much more preferred alternative is the SapplyValues test.

    https://sapplyvalues.github.io/

That been said, it’s still ridiculous that they all ended up in almost the exact same little square.

To be fair, I legitimately don’t think anyone on the “political right” has anything of value to contribute to any community anywhere.

Conservativism, in the sense of being cautious about change, is an important perspective to have. The problem is that a lot of people that call themselves conservatives are actually reactionaries.

Reactionaries are just reacting to proposed changes, its inline with being cautious about change. Maybe a little too cautious, but still

That’s a different (and imo less useful) definition of reactionary. Reactionaries in the sense that I’m talking about are those that want to return society to some previous (generally awful) status quo.

I don’t particularly care for the perspectives of the fundamentally disgusting, the same way I wouldn’t really care about the culinary opinions of a cannibal.

The funny thing about art and perspectives is that they’re really not in short supply. You can afford to be pretty choosy with who you want to let hang out around you; that extends to say, immediately banning hexbear users on sight because they’re assholes the same way you could viciously dismember ban anyone who posts fascist shit.

But GOOD art IS in short supply, and I’m strongly of the opinion that as long as the artist is dead or otherwise can no longer benefit from the popularity of their work, it is our duty, as art appreciators, to appreciate said work. o7
