The m&a march goes on …
I’m excited to share Unsplash is being acquired by Getty Images today.
The reason I’m excited about this acquisition is because it’s not goodbye, it’s about acceleration.
This is not one of those tech acquisitions where the company is bought to be shut down …
so on and so forth
As for people wondering why Getty is hated:
Thanks for the reminder, I can feel my blood pressure rising!
I guess it’s time to call it a RIP, they had a good run. Yes everytime some product is bought we get this “This does not mean goodbye” yet most of the times it means exactly that. It’s just marketing.
Yeah, I never would have guessed it (why not, not sure) but they had already had 3 rounds of VC funding per crunchbase:
Series B $20,000,000 Aug 4, 2019
Series A - Unsplash $10,300,000 Feb 16, 2018
Seed Round - Unsplash Jan 1, 2013
Another build-it-to-get-bought-out bites the dust.
Time to remove my pictures with tens of views from this website
Might be unrelated, but huge respect to VLC for being one of the few FOSS projects that refuse to sell out.
