Usually I only post these announcements on [email protected], but Krull… well it’s not a GREAT movie, but it’s not quite a B movie either. It had a video game tie-in, a respectable budget, and it was aimed at being a hit. It’s more like a first-run movie that didn’t quite come off. But it has nostalgia value! And parts of it are pretty good!
Anyway, if you want to watch it this Sunday with a pack of fediverse wits and wisealecks, read on…

Krull (1983) is the movie for this Sunday’s “monsterdon” watch party over on Mastodon, our fediverse sibling!
- Just start watching that movie this Sunday, April 13, 2025 at 9pm ET / 8pm CT / 6pm PT which is 1am Monday UTC
- and follow #monsterdon over on mastodon for live commentary. For example, you can follow that hashtag here: https://mastodon.social/tags/monsterdon
- I usually open two web browser windows on a computer side-by-side. But you could follow the mastodon commentary on a phone app while watching the movie on TV or something.
How to watch the movie:
- Tubi (US, England, Canada, Australia, NZ?) (NOTE you may need to “enable DRM” if you’re on Firefox; dunno if that disables uBlock Origin adblock): https://tubitv.com/movies/100029546/krull
- someone plans to stream it on https://miru.miyaku.media/ at that time

Krull is a 1983 British[1] science fantasy adventure film[2] … The story follows Prince Colwyn (Marshall) and a fellowship of companions who set out to rescue his bride, Princess Lyssa (Anthony), from a fortress of alien invaders who have arrived on their home planet.
…
The film was a box-office bomb upon release, and critical opinion has been mixed, both upon release and in retrospect. Numerous reviewers have highlighted its visual effects and soundtrack, while several critics have criticized its plot as being derivative and nonsensical. In the years since its release, the film has developed a cult following.

We discussed this movie here on B Movie Bonanza a year and a half ago!
Fun movie. Very 80s “new wave” feeling about it. Also the lead goes on to have a supporting role in Star Trek
Next GenerationDeep Space Nine! Thanks, I hadn’t realized that!
The origin of the throwing glaive, which ended up influencing game designers for decades to come….
Pretty impressive for a weapon that would, in real life, sever all your fingers upon first use.
Liam Neeson’s breakthrough role!
Wait…that thing shoots lasers?? I thought it was like, a boomerang or something.
Are they really DRMing a 40 year old video?
Yeah I was a little surprised, but… there’s been talk of a reboot by JJ Abrams.
One of my faves from childhood. I still love corny old fantasy movies to this day. :D
i haven’t seen it since it was ‘new’ in the video store… on betamax it would’ve been, even.
Betamax…wow…lol. That really brings me back… :D
Beast Master FTW.
Krull IS a great movie. Certainly a movie of its time, but underrated.
I just love how specific that moment is, where you could bill your story as being “beyond all imagination” and it’s literally a fight between an evil monster and a heroic king.
Man, my fam and I do weekly watch parties every week on Signal, but it’s usually recent horror movies that we want to show each other. However, I love Krull, might do this one too.
I made my wife watch this once because I liked it as a kid. She described it as “meandering.”
Thank you for sharing !
The only time I ever heard my childhood Episcopal priest curse was after six year old me encouraged him and his son/my best friend to watch this movie.
Its my dream, “in my spare time”™, to build a modified quadcopter drone that acts like the spinning blade, which can be steered using something akin to a glove/ powerglove, as in the movie.
