I’m an xennial from Oregon, our schools got computer labs specifically for that game (and Tandy Volleyball). I got rather good. The challenge was to play as a banker, leave as late as possible, and still make it to Oregon City.
4th graders, district wide, also played a year long Oregon trail game for several years running. How well you did on projects governed how fast you moved. Imagine the 4th graders (not me) who played this game for an entire school year only to freeze in the Rockies.
