Also and I seen this with covid too, we tend to concentrate on deaths and barely talk about the damage done by disease when you survive.

With these people, they think the long term effects are fabricated or exaggerated. Death is a lot harder to make alternative explanations for.

If only. A lot of dumbasses will justify it away as “God’s will.”

I have few in my family.

One likely contributed to the death of another as he convinced his brother in law to not get the vaccine.

He now goes with the explanation that the hospital killed him. Ignores (or comes with new conspiracy theories) when asked why his brother in law needed to go to hospital if it was just cold?

You know what’s funny? When he eventually caught covid (fortunately for him it was omicron variant, the other family member got delta). When he was sick he was willing to take anything, including a full bag of monoclonal antibodies (do you know how many microchips they could fit in one bag???) but then doctors didn’t want to give it to him.

Of course after he recovered, he resumed talking about conspiracy theories.

We have family back in India and someone died from covid, but that still wasn’t enough to convince the antivaxxers in my family here in the UK.

My mum ended up on a ventilator, because she got brainwashed by them into thinking it’s no big deal and covid isn’t even real, it’s just a cold (she was in the shielding group). Then one of the most insane members of my family tried to convince my dad to tell the doctors to take my mum off the ventilator, because the ventilator is a big conspiracy and will kill her. Luckily another family member got wind of it and intervened. My mum pulled through but was weakened by long covid.

Some of these people are truly unhinged. They’re so detached from reality, it’s unbelievable.

Another example is the YouTuber Sheeps and Neeps. He was a flat earther, so of course it followed he was into all the anti-science stuff. He got cancer, put his money where his mouth was, and did his own “natural” treatment. He died.

I am unfortunately aware and it is sad. Which is why I had to qualify that it is harder, but not impossible for them to ignore death statistics. It’s crazy how deeply held some of these beliefs are to some people.
