I thought something was up when a package no longer covered enough for a single pizza.
The larger packs were also <$4.50, and now they are $6 - $6.50.
Man I cannot stand daiya. I really want their product to be good but each time I try it it tastes horrible. How can cheese be so far behind meat in plant based alternatives?
Yeah, there are way better vegan cheeses out there, but this is the brand that pretty much every store in Canada carries. It’s rare to see a different brand, although, Walmart does have one that’s not bad (needs very high temps to melt).
There is some really good vegan cheese out there, it’s expensive though.
I’m a big fan of Treeline, their bleu cheese is to die for.
I wonder if I can find it. Basically I need cheese for burritos or worse quesadillas. Daiya has a real chemical after taste that just rubs me all the wrong ways.
Shit tastes like uncooked dough. Fuck em
Did they really change the product AGAIN to make it ‘melt like real cheese’? They did that a few years and it tasted like shit.
E: Or is the packaging style what is new? Awesome
I distinctly remember that change. A bunch of us complained enough and they changed it back. I got a bunch of coupons for free products. This change unfortunately forces me to move to another brand because of the new ingredients.
Actually yeah. I did not like the OG one, way too much oil and could never get it to melt. This one actually melts and tastes good. Now my favorite is actually Mikonos pourable mozzarella but that’s just for pizza.
It’s actually not bad. There was a different brand from Walmart (violife or something like that), and we couldn’t get it to “melt like cheese” unless the oven was 500f.
I prefer my own homemade vegan cheese, but my wife has to have this stuff. It’s a compromise, but at some point only her half of the pizza will get covered if they keep shrinking the package!
What do you make your own cheese with? Cashews?
This is the recipe I’ve been using: https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/melty-stretchy-gooey-vegan-mozarella/
Yes, it has cashews, but the tapioca starch gives it a really authentic texture.
Now, it won’t get you shredded cheese, which you’d need a different recipe and far more effort. But this gives you globs as that you can drop down in dollops, similar to a traditional Italian pizza.
I’m sure there are plenty of other recipes out there, but this has worked for us.

They are actually owned by a Japanese pharmaceutical company! LOL But they operate in Canada and have been pretty good as far as companies go.
We rarely get packaged food like this, and vegan cheese has been really hard to find outside of this brand.
But yeah, gotta profit!
