Short people are still people and can be CEOs of game company.
Wtf is this about? It’s a huge studio, owned by one of the wealthiest companies in the world. They could afford to have 3 people and outsource all the work to development teams under the same stable.
What kind of weird cope is this shit? Larian with a few more people (now) produced one of, arguably, the best games of all time. Meanwhile Obsidian just released a worse game than anything they’ve ever made, including outer worlds which already palednin comparison to past obsidian work due to reduced scope.
???
Grounded was actually good, an excellent co-op game that flew under the radar. Have not played Avowed, but it doesn’t seem to be bad. They aren’t full of corporate crap, either, which is a huge relief. Also, Fallout: NV has a lot of nostalgia filter and community support.
It’s unreasonable to expect everyone to bang out BG3s or Kingdom Come Deliverance 2s.
I have played Avowed. The gameplay is fine, but the story is so basic it might as well not exist.
It’s such an odd change as someone who’s played and loved Obsidian’s other games. You’re right it’s unreasonable to expect a BG3 or KCD2, but I was expecting at least something on par with The Outer Worlds, which was already a lowered expectation compared to Obsidian’s past.
It’s a shame too, because I feel like the rest of the game is really well done. Graphics look awesome, fighting is fun, character animations looks superb. But the most important thing in my opinion, the story and world building, which obsidian normally knocks out of the park, was a major let down.
As a standalone game, it does feel a bit lacking so far to me (i only got to the first campsite, been busy) in story. That said, it technically isnt a standalone; the two Pillars of Eternity games are behind it as a lore base
I’m hoping they have a better run at their next game. It has been reported that Avowed was rebooted 3 times, ripping multipayer out of it, with big tonal shifts in the story.
This is not good for a studio of any size.
The Outer Worlds feels like a corridor shooter compared to Avowed, what are you on about
Avowed gets a suspicious amount of hate.
Kinda crazy. I went in expecting another The Outer Worlds, a game I was initially very disappointed in but ended up enjoying after I accepted what it was. What I got was well beyond my best expectations.
What did people expect this to be?
I think some expected FPS Baldur’s Gate. I subconsciously did and had to temper my expectations after finding the fish guy wasn’t down to fuck at the first campfire.

You joke, but
not really a spoiler but just in case
there’s a companion that is immediately extremely flirty. Pretty sure that’s the extent of it though, she’s just a funny old lady.
Doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with it, Steam negative reviews are about performance or expectations
Meh game from one of the most beloved RPG crafter in the world garners a proportional response to the lack of quality of their latest release. Fanboy insinuates conspiracy theories.

I’ve literally only played one of their games to completion. I couldn’t really care less either way but the negative response hardly feels proportional.
TIL Outer worlds where you can interact with the environment and kill quest givers with repercussions is actually a corridor shooter compared to avowed where every environment is as interactive as the walls on a corridor, just with more bears…
It’s a good thing you can kill quest givers in that game, else they might send you to one of the two enclosed loops where combat takes place.
Yes, skibidi magician simulator with bears is much better. Fuck thinking, what I want is to shoot the thing, reading is for nerds.

If you’re going to be pretentious about role-playing, you should at least pick a game that’s good at it.
TIL relative analysis = absolute analysis.
Many times we hear of a subsidiary of a major conglomerate say absolutely mad things, that no sane person would believe. That’s because the message isn’t for outside people, it’s a message for internal politics, to go up the chain of command in the conglomerate… It’s spin tailored for a literal handful of people. It doesn’t have to make sense.
Hell the people the message is for probably don’t believe it either, but they are playing internal politics so reality isn’t exactly a priority, just their internal power struggle
