Sometimes, when uploading to some sites, if I upload images with resolution and size within the correct parameters, the server doesn’t re-compress the images. If the images do get compressed, then they come out looking degraded.
I don’t know if those settings are per-server.
Does anyone know if there is a preferred resolution, file type and file size for photos and videos on pixelfed in general or pixelfed.ca?

So I believe right now the max file size is around 30MB, with 20 things allowed per album. Images do get optimized when uploading, but so far I haven’t noticed much degradation.
As for proportion, I’ve seen a bit of everything already. Personally I find square or portrait images work better on the mobile UI
