Summary
Trump revoked Joe Biden’s access to classified intelligence briefings, citing Biden’s 2021 decision to cut off Trump’s access.
Trump framed the move as part of his campaign promise to target political opponents.
He also revoked security clearances for ex-officials and dismissed the U.S. archivist.
Biden previously justified barring Trump from briefings over national security concerns.
Ignoring the current pettiness…
Why should any former president be privy to intelligence briefings?
Biden summed it up pretty well, without actually saying Trump might be a Russian asset:
Traditionally, new presidents value the input of the previous ones. They’ve been dealing with the recent geopolitical situation for years. Ideally we should strive for mentorship between administrations, president is a complex job and humans tend to do best when we pass along our wisdom. Things have gotten particularly kooky recently.
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
It’s pretty fucked that we are at the point where the idea of collaboration between administrations from different parties is so foreign that it doesn’t even register as a possible explanation for something like this.
To be clear, that’s not meant to be a criticism of you but rather a comment on how divided we are as a nation.
Disclaimer: I am Canadian and have had a couple beers
But you’re right about my interpretation. Although, I wasn’t thinking of presidents being adversarial to each I just wasn’t thinking how they’d help each other either.
