  • I don’t know about you guys but I’m tired of taking the high road. These fascist pricks have no morals. They know there are lines polite and reasonable people won’t cross and they use that to their advantage. They have no such constraints. Every hesitation on our part exposes another crack that they can slip through and avoid consequences. Threats of social repercussions, financial penalties, and prison sentences will not win this fight. The only way this ends is if we take it all the way.

Charge them with treason, execute them, and redistribute their wealth to the people. Anything less will only allow this disease of insatiable greed and lust for power to fester and one day return. Even going that far will only keep such men at bay for a generation or two. It will take constant vigilance and unwavering commitment to the principles of equality and justice to keep them out of power. We got lazy and gave them an opening. If we want to get rid of them we have to be willing to be as ruthless as they are in pursuit of that goal.

  • To be fair, parenting is a pretty shitty gig. Expectations are high and support is low. People judge everything you do, especially those who have never done it themselves. Even with good kids its a thankless slog most of the time. God help you if you get a hard one.

  • People tend to classify not being primarily driven by emotion as a disorder of one kind or another. Personally, I think being overly emotional is a major contributing factor to many societal issues. The cold, rational brain of a so called psychopath is more useful than that of the emotionally driven rube who can’t think of things in terms other than how it makes them feel. Losing empathy is a problem but the rest is a net benefit imo. I don’t think much, if any, emotion is required for empathy though.

  • I don’t mean to sound callous but if some relatively minor RCS issues, and there’s really no way they could be classified as major, stopped your friend from doing what he set out to do then he wasn’t all that invested in the idea.

I’m not saying there’s no problems with GrapheneOS or any other product helping consumers to change their habits but if you really care about issues like corporate overreach then a little inconvenience isn’t a deal breaker. In fact, it’s to be expected when switching away from mega corporations. They invest tons of money to make their user experience decent so that they can profit off of your data. If you want to get away from that you have to accept the fact that you’re moving away from a product supported by thousands of engineers with billions of dollars to spend towards a product developed by tens of engineers or less with very limited funding. Those developers do a damn good job IMO but a dip in ease-of-use has to be expected.

At the end of the day we all have to decide if we’re going to prioritize convenience or mindfulness. It sounds like your friend made his choice, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with the choice he made, I just think it’s important to put it in the proper perspective.
