High seas is still the best way to experience these games!
If anyone is interested. This is The Sims 2 with DLC from an EA “giveaway” some years ago. Just installed this yesterday and still haven’t found any problems. No EA bullshit and all the DLC. https://github.com/voicemxil/TS2-Starter-Pack
Edit: link for standalone resources https://github.com/mintalien/The-Puppets-2-Definitive-Edition
I would strongly suggest downloading the standalone installer and the install files (on a different github, you can see the address when using the web installer), in case this gets taken down, which isn’t exactly unlikely, now that the game isn’t abandonware anymore.
Valid point, adding the link
Installation is a tiny bit more complicated this way though. You need to manually unpack the content of the archives into your desired install folder before launching the installation, which then needs to install into this folder.
Why waste money on employees for a new Dragon Age game, when you can just repackage the old shit?
How are these things even related?
EA just laid off a bunch of BioWare employees.
I’m well aware. How does them re-releasing older games make this worse?
The rerelease was the absolute bare minimum. Not a remaster or any updates of offensive text etc. it required the bare minimum effort on their part and they are gonna be raking in money that they could have put towards keeping people employed and making a new game, but they’ll just pocket it and continue to coast off of nostalgia and name recognition. I don’t know the specifics of the layoffs, so maybe they were truly necessary, but generally there’s backlash to layoffs, and knowing that they are obviously not going to be hurting economically probably doesn’t ease the backlash. I have no real opinion on it, other than corpos bad, just providing context.
Mmm, nah. I’m not giving money to EA for the sims. I will continue to get every new install of sims and sims 2 from the open seas and play them with WINE without issue like I have been.
I see you EA, trying to get an emergency cash injection via nostalgia after flopping with the veilguard. This won’t keep you off the chopping block forever.
Yeah that’s exactly what this is. Panic buttons for instant cash
I’m genuinely surprised they hadn’t done it earlier.
Large corporations, just like any large organization, have significant institutional momentum. I would bet good money that this move was planned for months, if not longer, and was not a reaction to Veilguard underperforming.
The Sims 2 was the best version of the game…
However, last time I tried to play it with all DLC, on a computer made in 2018, it took over 2 hours to load.
Will that still be an issue?
Nope! It’ll probably just crash or something instead
Unlikely. I tried it with all expansions a few years ago (back when EA released it for free) and loading times were “only” a few minutes.
Did you have a bazillion mods installed? What kind of hardware were you using?
Did you have an SSD? Was the game and DLC installed on said SSD? Do you have one now if you didn’t before? This may be the difference between 2 hours and only 1.
I dont think my wife was using mods. I don’t know what her hardware was either, but I believe the computer came from ibuypower.
That’s tempting… put too many hours into sims 2
