Dr. Westman is one of the most well spoken, thoughtful, and science focused doctors I’m aware of. He does not sugar coat (heh) the known science; it’s always worth while to listen to him

I think the first thing I learnt about diet was that diet science has a half life of 5 years

Not sure I agree with that, the RCTs, the hard science studies from 1890, 1930, 1970, etc… All stand the test of time. The human body when observed objectively responds to stimulation the same.

I do agree the observational studies, the expert opinions, the guidelines, the meta-analysis of observational studies - has a clear bias and cyclic nature. Ancel Keys is the posterchild of bad faith science, throwing evidence away that didn’t suit his narrative.

If you haven’t read https://isupportgary.com/articles/the-plant-based-diet-is-vegan I highly recommend it, about the third party interests interfering with nutrition science (or the lack thereof). I’ll probably do a post on it (without using the Vegan word in the post title) just to talk about outside interference

So much nutrition science is interest group questionnaire epidemiology studies with dodgy food grouping (“burgers” is coded as meat) and rely on long term – 5 years – memory of meals

I’m pretty sure there’s enough low quality science to vanish over short timespans

YES! No policy or conclusion should EVER be based on food frequency questionnaires.

OVER THE LAST YEAR? Who remembers over the last year?

People are using poor quality data like this to say LCHF doesn’t work, when these people are not in ketosis… Bad faith science to push an agenda, upsets me

I think the nurses study was 5 years. How many medium servings is 900g rib eye?

I average just under a kilo a day, sometimes in a single meal when I didn’t eat enough the day before

I ate a lot less when I was getting less fat, ate last leaner then too

Elanoria – one of the Reddit carni mods – says she eats 3lbs a day
