Here’s a truth I have great faith in.

Family isn’t about genetics. It’s about love.

Anyone trying to get someone to “keep the family together” when they’ve been apart from the family because the love wasn’t there is just asking that person to submit to abuse again. That ain’t love.

My opinion? If the people that drive you to stay away from blood kin haven’t apologized for their behavior, and shown change, they aren’t family.
