If the idea is to minimize suffering then even if plants felt pain, it is less than the plants feeling pain from animals eating them AND THEN those animals feeling pain from humans eating them, so this is a moot point regardless. This also ignores that the packing in of animals into small spaces (and other factory farming atrocities) is a major source of suffering and to my knowledge there is no equivalent for plants.
