I had almost expected the ancient civilization that the opening lore dump was talking about to be Earth. The whole driving force of this story is how the MC is trying to get back to Earth. It would have been a great twist to find out he was there the whole time, just far in the future.

The ancient civilization gave me Dimension W flashbacks due to the resource exploitation and backlash of said decision.

I’m interested in seeing what direction the author takes as usually most isekai authors takes one of two directions:

      1. The protagonist is unable to return to their previous world and must decide how they want to live their new lives.
      2. [Rare] The protagonist returns.

I’m annoyed at the ignorant townspeople clashing with the adventurers but I’m not surprised as this is unfortunately a real situation that frequently happens IRL

Yes, a serious tragedy of the commons type of scenario that you see play out all too often. The first example that pops into my mind (since I have some family that live down there) is how much of the Gulf Coast is threatened by climate change and fossil fuels extraction, but that industry also provides tons of economic opportunities for good jobs. There is a really good New Yorker article about it (archive link) that has stuck with me ever since I read it.
