Spot Shotter has repeatedly been shown to not only completely miss gunfights but also to have false positives. It’s crazy how many bullshit devices that don’t really work end up getting used by the government.

Voice Stress Analysis is another, even more eggregious example: It is 100% bullshit but police departments all over the place still buy this bullshit and act like it’s not complete quackery that has been thoroughly and completely debunked.

Devices like the stress analyzer aren’t meant to work, they’re meant to give excuses for further action. Like drug-sniffing dogs.

I don’t know what it is about the government they’re like chomping at the bit to install technology from the snakeoil AI salesman.

If I were a shitty cop I’d he excited for more excuses to have devices confirm my suspicions about people without needing due diligence.

Pretty sure they actually listen to claims and proposals and never have an actual testing period where the creator doesn’t get to setup a scenario.

It’s like believing game studios when they show you a trailer for a game instead of gameplay or a playable demo.

And anything that enables more mass surveillance. FUSUS systems are being installed all around the USA that aggregate private video camera feeds into video-surveillance centers for cops and whoever else they want to give access.

My city was considering getting it, but I live less than a mile from a gun range and from Thur. to Sun. in our neighborhood all you hear is gunfire.

So I asked the city, how does Shotspotter tell the difference between gunfire that’s expected (gun range) from gunfire that’s NOT expected (crime)?

It doesn’t. My city declined to buy it. ;)
