I’ve seen similar bugs in all sorts of devices.
I also don’t know why people don’t change their SSID.

The ecobee lite devices are actually pretty good, but nobody has ever implemented any version of IEEE 802.11 correctly, so it’s not surprising that an embedded device chokes on ridiculous Unicode. I’ve seen similar bugs in all sorts of devices.
