4 panel comic:
1 NPC says: A Lesbian? You just haven’t had the right dick yet
2 person replies: But my gf has a dick
3 NPC with blank look
4 NPC looks angry
Lol at the comment not understanding that women can have dicks
my trans coworker a few jobs back showed us a meme: “Girls are like pizza. Some girls are like a plain cheese pizza. Girls like me are like a pizza with sausage.”
she was a trip. Fond working with her.
Which reminds me: never seen Polish or German sausage on a pizza.
Surely there must be some fetish site for that…
- Person replies: are you straight? You just haven’t had the right dick yet
Doesn’t work if the NPC is female tho
Helen launched a thousand ships but somehow people think that it’s dick that’s powerful? Please.
And that was only with her face!

Ah darn— on Kbin it shows properly. On Lemmy (or at least my Lemmy client, I’m using wefwef) the post title shows as “¯(ツ)/¯” because the backslash is registered as an escape or formatting character, so you have to do 2 backlashes. It was common on Reddit for that to happen (warning: Reddit profile link), so somebody would give them the other backslash or 2 (in the case of the underscores emphasizing text as well.)
That’s standard markdown, which old reddit used. I don’t think it should be applied in titles which should be rendered as plain text. On my client, Connect, it renders correctly.
Oh! I might open an issue then, if it seems inconsistent from the default web interface.
I just checked in the browser and it does render as plain text, so that would appear to be how it’s intended to look. I think titles should be that way anyway - large plain text is enough to communicate a title.
Doesn’t make any sense.
Sure does, what’s tripping you up there?
Definitional collapse.

Could you finish this statement, if possible? Trans woman are ______
Now I would recommend taking great care in how you answer. Some consideration of what instance you’re on would probably also help.
Trans women are wonderful and accepted parts of our society! Trans women sometimes have penises and that makes us twinsies because I have a penis too! Trans women are humans usually except for the aliens pretending to be humans and sometimes posing as Trans women!
There I finished it for you! Couldn’t help meself
And don’t forget women.
Trans wonen are women. Simple as.
Only in your own mind, making it a “you” problem, not one with reality.
Thank you for explaining the drawing 🙏
Not sure if /s or not, so: some people can’t see, that is for their screen readers
A transcription is not an explanation
you dropped this -> \, here you go
So, can anyone explain why the “
\
” symbol disappears when typed out normally? what do you have to do to make it register?Markdown formatting, \ is often used as what is called an escape sequence. I don’t knew the rules for lemmy’s markdown, just remember to add 2 \'s
with the shrug emoticon you have to use 3
the underscore is used for text formatting so you have to escape it and the back slash
2 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
3 ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh dear. In my client, Connect, the 2 slash version looks right and the 3 slash version has a doubled arm. I suspect it’s not rendering markdown correctly.
Lemme try:
¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Okay idk how to describe this, but those two text strings above are seemingly identical in plain text, but one renders correctly, the other incorrectly in my client. I feel like I’m being gaslit.
Liftoff here, 2 is the right number… except in some comments where 3 works too unless it doesn’t 🤷
2 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - OK (second italics escaped)

2 ¯\(ツ)/¯ - unescaped ITALICS

3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - OK (first italics escaped)
33 20 c2 af [5c 5c] [5c 5f] 28 e3 83 84 29 5f 2f c2 af 0a
3 ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ - doubled

Ah, so there’s a non-printing character in there. It’s weird that the person making a demo to explain it made that mistake.
Huh. didnt think it was that east, thank you!
I just look up “shrug text emoji” and copy pasta that lol 😂
Here you go, this is how to make it appear properly in markdown: ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
It will appear as this when you paste it: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks though I don’t seem to be having any issues, looks fine on kabin!
Oh my bad, I keep forgetting how differently the fediverse can look in different instances!
No worries I appreciate the help!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
