There’s a lot to unpack here.

The Florida GOP earlier this week said Barron Trump, who is 18, would join three of the former president’s other children — Eric, Tiffany and Donald Trump Jr. — as delegates, with Eric Trump serving as the state’s delegation chair.

So the GOP just came out and announced it, perhaps without even asking Barron or Barron saying he wanted it.

“While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” former first lady Melania Trump’s office said in a statement.

Then mom comes in and says “no” on his behalf. So we STILL haven’t heard from Barron what his wishes are.

I’d like to think mom went to Trump and said “If you push Barron to do this, I’ll testify at your trial…you know which one”.

My guess is Trump asked him, or maybe even just told his guys he’d do it without asking Barron. Then Melania found out in the press and said ‘hell no’ to that.

Just shows that nobody in that family actually talks to each other.

Considering how they’ve exchanged a family dynamic for a corrupt corporate one, they probably just communicate in depositions.

That’s for the best. The unwritten rule has always been that children are off limits until they get involved. 18 is way too young to enter his father’s media circus.

Obama’s kids were used in ads by the NRA in 2013, before that they were invoked by school lunch advocates in 2008. Thanksgiving 2014 they went after them again. I’m probably not remembering more than that.

Didn’t the bush kids get bothered about trying to buy a beer?

This is the one space where we should never stoop to their level. Kids are off limits unless they’re actual adults. Leave them out of it.

I’m really glad that Barron isn’t going to involve himself here, because I don’t want him to get sucked into this unless he decides it’s what he wants to do.

The Republicans never abided by them. See Rush (de facto leader of the Republican Party for decades) and Chelsea Clinton, for instance.

Unfortunately, he and his many, many, many imitators all over hate radio, the web, and tv have done their best to manifest someone like Ronald McDonald. He may be gone but his movement is very much alive.

Welp, Rush Is dead now. Dying was the coolest thing that man ever did. 🎉

Dying was his second coolest thing. His first coolest thing was becoming a drug addict after years of being critical to those with drug addition. He even said "drug abuse was a choice, not a disease. " He was alive long enough to live that hypocrisy and experience the ridicule for it.

Well, he also denied the smoking - lung cancer connection.

I cannot tell you how many people would argue with me - IRL and online - often molded directly after Rush’s style, and repeat, like good little parrots: “correlation is not causation! correlation is not causation!”. I think Ayn Rand had her cult members smoke as a matter of dogmatic adherence to her Objectivist ideals, too. I have to wonder how much of this made its way to all the little Libertarians and/or Republicans as a consequence.

                  So dumb…

I mean… Being a tremendous douche is something he can do while being in politics, as has been proven by his father. But I’m not going to stand in his way.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Barron Trump is declining Florida’s offer to be a delegate to the Republican National Convention this summer, citing ‘prior committments,’ according to his mother’s office.

‘While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,’ the Office of Melania Trump said.

On Wednesday, Barron, 18, was elected as an at-large delegate to help formally nominate his father Donald Trump as the Republican presidential nominee.

Unlike his half-siblings, Barron Trump was rarely seen during his father’s White House years, mainly at the request of his mother Melania who is known to be protective of her son.

The former president spent Friday in a Manhattan court room as New York continues to prosecute him over a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Reports of Barron’s interest in politics seemed confirmed on Wednesday when the Republican Party of Florida picked him to join his older siblings as an at-large delegate for the state.
