Costs I estimate to be typical for 1 HDD, about 120USD which is about 170CAD

For 5 HDDs, I estimate about 485USD which is about 685CAD.

Ymmv, and these drives are if you just want bulk capacity at the lowest price over all else.

How exactly do they refurbish a drive? Just secure wipe it and sell? I’d be interested in knowing what SMART says for power on hours of these.

Basically. Keep in mind that these enterprise drives are often much better built and have much better QC than consumer level drives, so they can last forever. It’s kind of like debating between a used 4-year-old Toyota Corolla and a brand new Range Rover.

    I have I think 300tb from them.

2 x 16tb failed within the first month, but otherwise it’s been solid. Currently running 8 x 20tb and still kicking strong

I’ve been buying 8TB SAS drives from eBay. No failures yet and the price is far cheaper as they won’t work with conventional SATA controllers so there is less demand for them.

I’ve bought used 8TB SAS drives for $60 each. Haven’t had a single one die yet.
