I really hate banda, but I also wouldn’t complain if I heard it while I was in Mexico.

It would be like complaining that all that country music in Nashville was ruining your enjoyment of Beethoven.

Don’t go to fucking Nashville if you don’t want to hear country music and don’t go to Mazatlán if you don’t want to hear Banda.

I think the issue isn’t the TYPE of music, but how loud it is and how late they play. Not that I agree with the efforts to ban it, I definitely understand the feeling from tourists.

We took a trip to Vietnam and had no idea that every morning the entire city comes to one specific park to do exercises to techno music… at 4am. We were unable to get a good night sleep because the loud music playing constantly outside our hotel. It honestly made it so hard to enjoy that portion of our trip. That said, it’s kind of awesome that so many people come out to exercise together every day. I was pissed at the time, because we had been flying or in airports for 32 hours at that point; but I would just plan around it next time.

These tourists are coming to have a relaxing stay at the beach, away from the noise and stress of their daily lives, so it sucks they can’t get any sleep or peaceful relaxation. But that’s the city, and they should have done better research. They can complain all they want, just don’t come back. I understand why they complain, but if I lived there I would tell the hotels to suck it. You chose to make an investment in a hotel in a loud city, so don’t expect the city to change to ensure you profit.

I agree. That’s really the point. Research a place before you go there. If you don’t, it’s on you if things you don’t like happen there.

I had to fight this banda sh*t in my own mid-west US neighborhood. Complete with tuba at 3am on a Thursday.

If you don’t like the local culture, go somewhere else. I hope this is more the hotels doing shit than the tourists actually complaining.
