After rumours galore, the writer, who helmed the BBC sci-fi from 2010 to 2017, will officially make his return for Ncuti Gatwa’s season.
Moffat said of his return: "Yes, OK, fair enough – apologies to everyone I’ve very slightly misled – I am in fact writing an episode of the series of Doctor Who. Exactly like I said I never would. What can I tell you?
"There was begging, there was pleading but finally Russell agreed to let me have another go – so long as I got out of his garden. Working with old friends and a brand new Doctor I couldn’t be happier.
“Sorry I was a bit reticent on the subject for so long. It was all part of an elaborate plan that would have delighted millions but at the last minute I forgot what it was.”
How is it season 14? Hasn’t this show been running since the 60s?
It’s season 14 of the 2005 reboot. The pre-2005 stuff is “doctor who classic” now, and there’s I think 26 seasons?
And if that’s not confusing enough, there’s been talk that this upcoming season is considered a new show and will be “season 1”.
I’m not a huge Doctor Who fan, but after the last few seasons of lore, a fresh slate doesn’t sound all bad to me.
The serials from the 60s are usually labeled as “Series” with multiple parts and the NewWho starting in 2005 is labeled as “Seasons” with episodes.
Edit: oh yea and they missed a few seasons where they just released a Christmas special episode/movie, so that’s why 14 and not 19 or 20.
It’s actually Season 40. It’s numbered as Series 14 of the new 2005 series.
