Five years from now, you look out upon the charred ruins of what used to be your neighborhood. You remember this song. That was it. That was the moment that the stupid became terminal.

Agreed. Engaging trolls lends implicit credibility to their platform, and they have no requirement to reciprocate that credibility.

It’s number one on iTunes charts right now. How much effort did they have to put in to game that system?

Viable options to stop Ben Shapiro exercising his Constitutional right to be a cringey cryptofascist:

1: Ignore him. His model of conservative activism depends on the left’s impotent outrage to signal boost his message.

        2: Violence

        It’s not about music.

It’s about a racist guy using music that was invented by black people.

Shapiro claimed that “Colin Powell was an affirmative action general”.[28] He also decided that “[t]he Obama administration is” using “racism to let black criminals off the hook, justify illegal immigration, hamstring law enforcement across the country, and push redistribution as a solution to supposed continuing discrimination against ‘people of color.’” As a result, “[t]he next race war will come not from racist whites, but from racist blacks and Hispanics who feel empowered to act on their racism by an administration that excuses all minority misbehavior.”[29]

In a 2018 episode of the Ben Shapiro show, Shapiro tried to argue that assuming all black people are criminals is a reasonable use of group data rather than racism. This included justifying avoiding young black people on the street and hiring no black people if you can’t run a background check.[30] No word was given on whether or not he would see it as reasonable to refuse to hire or rent to men because they have a higher violent crime rate than women.

In his “U.S. President Tier Ranking” video, he stated that the Civil Rights Act was wrong because it infringed on the freedoms of private businesses (these “freedoms” being the freedom to discriminate against black people).[31] He has also expressed support for Charles Murray, listing him among a series of conservatives who he claims were unfairly maligned by the rabid Twitter mob.[32]

So yes, when Ben Shapiro raps, he is appropriating black culture.

I was going to make a substantive reply to this, but I don’t think the rudeness at the end there was warranted, so I won’t.

Okay, fair enough on the rudeness.

My point wasn’t to say in any way that any white person rapping is culturally appropriating.

I am saying when racists take expressions of a culture that they are racist against and uses them, then it is cultural appropriation.

Minstrel music involved playing folk songs sung by black people, accompanied by a banjo, which was a traditional instrument of black people, sung in a fake black vernacular. They were also in blackface, but the blackface was not what made it appropriation. The “this thing you created is ours now too, you N—s” that made it appropriation.

                And this is no different.

Here are some of the lyrics to Shapiro’s rap. They are absolutely done in a ‘black’ vernacular:

Let’s look at the stats, I’ve got the facts

My money like Lizzo, my pockets are fat

                Homie, I’m epic, don’t be a WAP

Dawg, it’s a yarmulke, homie, no cap

Shapiro doesn’t talk like that normally. Ben Shapiro doesn’t call people ‘Homie’ or ‘Dawg.’ That’s Shapiro trying to sound “black.” That is textbook appropriation.

So I’m sorry if people take me saying ‘cultural appropriation’ to mean ‘Ben Shapiro is a white person doing music invented by black people,’ but that is not what appropriation means, so I don’t think that is on me.

It’s bad enough when white people who don’t hate black people appropriate black culture…

My point wasn’t to say in any way that any white person rapping is culturally appropriating. I am saying when racists take expressions of a culture that they are racist against and uses them, then it is cultural appropriation.

It’s your original comment that’s inconsistent with this. Maybe it’s not what you meant, but it reads like you’re saying “it’s bad enough when white people appropriate culture, but it’s worse when racists do it”

Who tf identifies culturally as “white” apart from white supremacists? There’s no such thing as “white” culture. There is slavic culture, german culture, italian culture and so on. Saying “white people have no culture” is like saying “people with blue eyes have no culture”
