They were special because they were white and “christian”. They could discriminate freely which made them feel powerful. Now that everyone has rights they can’t do that anymore and they’re just like everyone else.
Remember when Syndrome, the young villain in The Incredibles, said, “When everyone is special no one is.” That’s the problem. Now that they can’t discriminate against people of color, or LGBTQ, or anyone else they don’t feel powerful anymore.
Add to that the fact that people have for years been telling them that being a racist is bad, and being dumb is bad, and being intolerant is bad. They’re tired of feeling bad about themselves and that frustration and anger has boiled up, as it always does, as fascism.
Thats what really terrifies me, especially after Danielle Smith’s win.
