We’ve come a long way, since Sailfish OS was first introduced in 2013. Now as we enter the 4th generation with Sailfish OS, the secure platform for trusted mobile solutions, we can proudly say that our product is in great shape and ready to expand to new frontiers! After Sailfish 3 was launched many big developments …
Very nice. It looks good! I’m a bit confused on what it is. I guess it’s similar to ubuntu touch in some ways, but it has a lot of proprietary software. I think it’s really cool but idk what the advantage is.
/e I don’t mean this in any way as me hating on it I just really don’t know what’s going on with this
It started out as a continuation of Maemo from the old Gnu/Linux running Nokia devices (N900 etc) by some of the same people after Nokia sold their Smartphone business to Microsoft.
The underlying software-stack is mostly open-source, but despite original promises the UI never got released as open-source, and by now it has become highly unlikely it ever will as company priorities shifted.
I notice the ui looks a bit like the old microsoft ui in devices like the zune. Is that related to them being sold to microsoft at all? or is it just coincidental
Coincidence I guess, the sale to Microsoft was what caused them to leave Nokia and start Jolla/SailfishOS so if anything the opposite should be true.
okay thanks
What is about https://maemo-leste.github.io/ ?
This is an unrelated project that came up later. Probably partially motivated by the frustration with the failure of Jolla to open up their UI code as promised.
Then it is related jajajajajajajaja.
