Are you actually complaining about an opinion piece having an opinion? The Guardian has been on top of things for quite some time with their news coverage.
I think it is a variety of the same “universal remedy” bad-faith argument that is often used to criticize politicians when they do something good.
“Hey, Biden pardoned Leonard Peltier.”
“Yeah but why NOW? Why not BEFORE? Isn’t it true that he IS A TERRIBLE PERSON because he let this POOR MAN sit in PRISON how DARE HE” and so on.
In this case, it doesn’t even make sense in those terms, because ongoing coverage of the nature and progress of Trump becoming a dictator is certainly timely. But, in general, a news outlet that writes a good story is a good thing. The existence of some backwardsland logic where it turns into a bad thing doesn’t change that.
Anyone who is neither furious nor scared about not only the junta’s approach to journalism but society in general is going to be shocked by the leopards.
