Recently we had one of the largest fires in California history called the Park Fire.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Wednesday morning that 277 structures have been destroyed by the fire and 29 structures have been damaged.
On the TV they interviewed a man whose house survived. He said, “I thank god my house was spared”.
So, let me get this straight. God destroyed 277 homes but saved yours? If that’s god’s will then god is an asshole.
The Cult of Dionysus allowed women, slaves, criminals, and non-citizens to join, which was a very bold political statement in conservative Hellenic Greece. In fact, Dionysus was the last of the 12 Olympians to join the Hellenic Pantheon after the fall of Mycenaean Greece. There was a period of a couple hundred years when Hellenic Greece was rebuilding its mythology, and they didn’t worship Dionysus because they just couldn’t figure out how to make Dionysus palatable to kings and nobleman. Dionysus is transgender, pansexual, neurodivergent, and completely antithetical to the rule of nobility. They had to strip away a lot of core themes from the Mycenaean period in order to invent a version of Dionysus that kings could worship without being hypocrites. OSP has a great video about it.
