Wesley Bell, who’s challenging Cori Bush in Missouri, dropped out of a race against Republican Josh Hawley to take on the Democratic congresswoman. Apparently, punching left with AIPAC’s support is a more appealing career booster than challenging the Right.
Democrats may or may not ride high into a big win this November, but I envision right wing allies are going to do this type of thing more often, use money and influence try to infiltrate the party and bring it even more conservative. Or run a progressive sounding campaign and then being a turncoat.
As Republicans find it harder and harder to win on the “merits” of their platform, they’ll look to co-opt Left messaging or even labels to win. Sort of the political office equivalent of conservative guys who claim they’re not, on Tinder.
