Police are a socialised version of something that already existed. If we didn’t have them what exactly is going to happen if somebody gets murdered?

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Sometimes I forget how awesome Linux Gaming isEnglish
93·22 hours agoI just upgraded to an AMD card. My Windows partition required me to download and install the drivers, which gave me some features for controlling how games work. Linux didn’t require me to download anything but I don’t have the tools. Different experiences but neither is particularly better. I didn’t have technical problems with either.

11·1 day agoI’m so done with MCU movies.
I’m sick of the sight of that stupid grey all the pubs keep using.
Why are people still arguing in the comments. Falcon would be toast before they’d got someone to the turrets.

1533·3 days agoFrankly I find the AI hate kind of tiresome itself. ChatGPT is just another source of information, it can be right and wrong, as can a webpage a books or a person. Nowadays all the people who think they’re smart just tell you to Google an answer yourself; in the early 00s people were the same about finding answers on the internet. If you had the answer to a question and told people you’d read it on the internet they’d smirk at you and tell you to read a book (which could also be wrong).

19·4 days agoI’ve just put the batteries in a toy a relative bought from TikTok. It’s some drawing pad where you draw on it then press a button and your drawing’s supposed to glow. It’s a total piece of shit, the drawing barely glows and it takes ages to clean. It’ll probably go in the bin tomorrow, I’ve already warned my wife to take the batteries out first.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do people in your country leave for Santa/st Nicolas/Christmas gnome etc?
144·4 days agoMilk and cookies seem bizarre, there’s nothing Christmassy about that. You need to put your foot down there.
We’re also UK and we just left out a mince pie, a chocolate biscuit that my daughter wanted to give him, a carrot, and some whisky which Santa asked for when we went to see him. We let our daughter pour the whisky and it was quite a generous serving. My wife said “That’s quite a lot, he’s going to be tipsy” and my daughter said “It’s only half a glass mummy”. I just poured it back into the bottle.

openSUSE@lemmy.world•What does openSUSE have to offer for a long-time Arch user?
8·4 days agoNever used Arch but openSUSE does have a minimal install option you might like. Other than that I find it to be a pretty no-nonsense distro. Most distros have some kind of ideology, like Ubuntu is easy, Arch is minimal, etc. openSUSE is just middle of the road and doesn’t push you in any direction.
It feels pretty German out of the box but you can obviously change whatever you want. BTRFS means if anything fucks up you can just roll it back but I’ve never had to in the two years I’ve been running it. If you’re used to Arch you might find that Leap is a little slow but Tumbleweed and Slowroll both want updating constantly. I like Zypper too, it’s fast and straightforward.
Wuster sher (pronounced like her).
Now learn Gloucestershire.

news@lemmings.world•Epstein files live: DOJ restores Trump photo found in pedophile’s documents after outcry from Dems and GOPEnglish
4·8 days agoTbf, there’s so many faces in that picture that saying that they’d removed it because they didn’t know if anyone in there was a victim seems pretty plausible. It wasn’t like Trump was prominently in it, the picture of him was shoved in a drawer under some other pictures.
Not saying that they haven’t covered up for Trump, but I don’t think this one is worth making a big deal about.

Nintendo@lemmy.world•Switch 2's Mario Kart World Bundle Has Apparently Reached The End Of Its Lifecycle | Nintendo LifeEnglish
13·8 days agoI don’t think this is big news.
Over the past year I’ve gradually switched from Gnome to Plasma but it’s so fucking clunky I do miss Gnome. I feel like it’s in the right place but it just needs rebuilding from the ground up in the modern world.

Good luck in Morocco. Driving isn’t terribly good there and I don’t recall ever seeing anyone doing long distances on a bike, they’re more of a local around town thing (I used to live there). Where are you planning on going there?
